Beta-hemolytic streptococci of group C (e.g., Streptococcus equi ssp. zooepidemicus) often form large mucoid colonies surrounded by distinct zones of beta-hemolysis on agar media with sheep or horse blood. Many strains of group B streptococci (S.agalactiae) form smaller colonies surrounded only by a weak hemolysis (incomplete hemolysis). Cultivation 48 hours in an aerobic
atmosphere, 37°C.
