Staphylococcus aureus
colony on blood agar


Staphylococcus aureus colony on sheep blood agar. Cultivation 24 hours, aerobic atmosphere, 37°C. A circular, convex colony with an entire margin, yellow pigmented, surrounded by a zone of beta-hemolysis. Compare with colonies of S.aureus on Triptic Soy Agar (here).

 
 
Microscopy:
Gram-positive cocci, nonmotile, tend to be arranged in grape-like clusters.
