Staphylococcus aureus

Staphylococcus aureus on Schaedler Agar. Cultivation 48 hours, anaerobic atmosphere, 37°C.

Staphylococci grow best aerobically, but are facultatively anaerobic (unlike strictly anaerobic bacteria, e.g. Clostridium spp., are able to grow in air as well as in an atmosphere without oxygen).

Microscopy:
Gram-positive cocci, nonmotile, tend to be arranged in grape-like clusters.
