Streptococcus equi
 

Disease caused by Streptococcus equi infection in horses is commonly referred to as strangles. Lymphadenopathy is a major clinical sign. Official name of this bacterium is Streptococcus equi ssp. equi and it is biovar of Streptococcus zooepidemicus.

 
Microscopy:
Gram-positive cocci in chains.
